Duyvis

The Neva system keeps our production lines, and therefore our products, clean”. The use of the innovative Neva big bag handling system in the factory of Borrelnootjes® manufacturer Duyvis Production, part of PepsiCo, guarantees more than efficient work preparation.

The Challenge

Maximizing Efficiency and Food Safety in Nut Production

At the Duyvis factory in Zaandam, nuts of all shapes and sizes—from Tijgernootjes (double-coated peanuts) to salted and roasted varieties—flow through multiple production lines. But their process wasn’t without its hurdles.

On the mixing line, achieving the perfect ratio of nuts and rice crackers was tricky. Rice crackers, light in weight but bulky in volume, required 50 to 60 metal flow bins for just one batch. This led to inefficient use of space and constant handling.

The metal flow bins also posed a food safety risk. After every use, they needed an intensive cleaning process, akin to a car wash, to ensure no residues were left behind. Time-consuming, costly, and prone to bottlenecks.

Duyvis needed a smarter solution that would:

  • Improve production flow
  • Enhance food safety
  • Optimize space utilization

On the line where our bags of mixed nuts are made, the use of Nevas is really ideal. The system is many times lighter than the heavy, metal flow bins that we used previously, and it also allows for good dosed unloading through the slider at the bottom of the pallet.Jeroen Brans, Project Manager

The Indus Solution

Big Bags + Neva: A Better Way to Move Nuts

Duyvis found their answer with Indus Neva systems. They started with 25 units and quickly expanded to over 60 across their facility.

Switching to big bags eliminated the need for heavy, hard-to-clean metal bins. Big bags are clean, food-safe, and disposable after use—no more washing required. This change alone saved valuable time and boosted food safety.

The Indus Neva system took it further:

  • Seamless integration into production lines using forklifts or pump trucks
  • Precise dosing through a bottom slider for controlled product flow
  • Significant space savings—more volume stored in less space, with stackable options

For lighter products like rice crackers, this was a game-changer. Duyvis could now store larger quantities with fewer handling steps.

To tailor the system for their needs, Duyvis chose food-approved Nevas with:

  • Virgin polypropylene decks for food safety
  • Stainless steel (type 304) stacking pipes with spring-loaded heads for efficient discharge
  • Adjustable heights to fit various big bag sizes

On the mixing line, where previously space was maxed out, the Nevas opened new possibilities. The lighter system allowed for safe stacking, freeing up floor space and improving production speed. Their next step? Testing stacking two Nevas on the line to push efficiency even further.

The Result

Results At a Glance:

  • Faster, more efficient production
  • No more time-consuming cleaning
  • Higher food safety standards
  • Space optimization through stackable storage

The Nevas are much lighter than the old metal bins, offer precise unloading, and stack neatly—making our production smoother and safer,” says Guensley Campagnard, technical expert at Duyvis.
